Dear colleagues, 

I do know 2005 paper of Pfenninger with coauthors, it was mentioned in description of my question since the beggining :).

I'll try to contact Dr. Christoph Allgaier later with few more questions regarding this topic after situtaion will be clearer. We follow each other on RG for now :).

Josep, I have a student who wants to work on the morphology of the hairs in Helicoidea s.l. (functional morphology if we will find a way). So for now I'm just searching for all what is done and what can be done in this topic.

Those interested in hairs on land snails may want to take a look at a Baja California bulimulid, Rabdotus (Plicolumna) perhirsutus, illustrated in figs. 1-3 of Smith et al., 1990, Land Mollusca of Baja California, Mexico. Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences 47: 95-158. This species lives among granite boulders in desert thorn-scrub near the southern tip of Baja California. I have no idea why a snail in such an environment would benefit from having such structures, but it is a very strange looking beast indeed.
