The mechanism of action of TCM is not fully understood. Research has been done regarding endogenous opioids as the principal biological mediators of the therapeutic actions of acupuncture and recently on transauricular vagus nerve stimulation. Are there neurophysiological effects of acupuncture for primary nocturnal enuresis?

Firstly, acupuncture is according to Han not as effective as electro-acupuncture or TENS or SCENAR application. SCENAR application more so than TENS has an effect on the entire autonomous nerve system. The calming effect brings these children into a parasympathetic dominates state at night. The bladder control can be improved with these treatments as well
Secondly prim nocturnal enuresis has to be seen in the family context - stress in kids and the inability to switch off at night is an important factor too. The need to mark their territory needs to be considered as well.
All affected children in my holistic clinic were able to overcome their enuresis in an average of three weeks after 'treating them and their parents/caregivers'.
