Many semiconducting polymers are luminescent. If they are phosphorescent (typically with a heavy metal dopant), they may be useful materials for triplet harvesting.

However, some polymers, such as poly(3-thienylene-vinylene) are not luminsecent. Are there applications where this is an advantage? Why would it be and how do they work?

Thanks.
