We plan to conduct a research study where we are assessing the mental health of doctoral students. If we find the rates of mental health problems to be high we want to test the hypothesis that perhaps people with mental health difficulties are more likely to start a PhD.
To do this we need a measure assessing premorbid mental health problems i.e. were they experiencing mental health difficulties before they started their PhD. How can we do this? Please bear in mind that this will be an online questionnaire study (so we can't do a case review interview).
Sounds very interesting. I would go from giving BDI and BAI + general health + hopelessness scale (also Beck). probably those with some difficulties do better in their thesis writing.
Hi. Thanks - these are measures we are considering for current symptoms, but not sure if they would help us capture premorbid problems...
