I have to critically appraise three articles eg check their suitability . Are there tools for doing that. It appears there is one called STARD. I need help on this
Of course. Knowledge, reasoning, and common sense. Do not hope any kind of magic (whoever can tell, there are no quantitative or automatic/mechanical 'devices' to do your -personal, really scientific- work).
There is the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP).This set of eight critical appraisal tools are designed to be used when reading research, these include tools for Systematic Reviews, Randomised Controlled Trials, Cohort Studies, Case Control Studies, Economic Evaluations, Diagnostic Studies, Qualitative studies and Clinical Prediction Rule.
See this link:http://www.casp-uk.net/casp-tools-checklists
Aside from CASP, there is also an Australian version called JBI checklists. See link http://joannabriggs.org/research/critical-appraisal-tools.html. Depending on the study design, you can choose an appropriate critical appraisal tool.
