I am looking to find out if there are any studies, in any research area, that have used grounded theory and have conducted the research in Arabic (interview and coding etc)
I know therre are plenty. What I would suggest is for you to contact some research centres in British Universities who would be happy to point you inthe right direction. For example, some British universities have Arab PhD students who undertake studies on specific social science areas in their own countries, and as a result end up conducting interviews in Arabic.
Theses databases are also a good avenue to pursue.
Thanks for this suggestion. I can find many studies that have been done on Arab populations, but in most of these the language of the interview, transcription and GT analysis was English (or it is not specified).
Does anyone have an example of GT done throughout in Arabic?
Dear Mark, may I ask why you are looking into this? Are you expecting to find methodological differences based on the language a GT study was conducted in? I'm doing GT with Arabic (and English) interviews but I'm working with translations in the analysis (my Arabic is nowhere near ...). And yes, I'm well aware of the - let's call them challenges ... associated with foreign language use/working with translations in GT research. Still, this would be an interesting new aspect. Let us know if you find anything!
