I suggest you to take a look at Halsey Heath and Ridge who have worked upon the relation between education and social class in the UK. In their study, they aim at highlighting the fact that despite the introduction of the Education Act in the country in 1944 (assuring a free and equal education for all children), middle-class children are still more likely to go to university after sixth form than working-class children.

If you want to relate this analysis to the rural-urban comparison, you can easily find studies showing that in the UK, middle-classes are over represented in urban areas while working-classes tend to be regrouped in rural areas (even though this is not a generality).

The differences coming due to unequal distribution of resources which links to wealth and welbeing factors. Its is obvious that children, as well as others get more and better opportunities when they enjoy both accessibility and availability. However, if you take the case of urban slum dewelers or other low income groups in your comparision, different results may arise.
