This is an explorative q ,would welcome opinion if it is feasible.The idea is to detect argon plasma in a vacuum chamber by observing its effect on a substance placed outside the view port and possibly also detect other argon plasma properties non-invasively .

Just an idea: One of the rocks/minerals which fluorescence while being radiated by UV is fluorite (CaF2 based mineral). So if you have an Ar-plasma you also have UV-light. But if you use a glass window in your plasma system this glass usually does not transmit the UV. If you want the fluorite to fluorescence outside the plasma you need a quartz viewing glass. A more easy way to do it is using Si-detectors which register the UV light.
Thank you very much Peter. Actually the idea came to me when I recalled as a kid, we were taken around by Sir. C.V.Raman (Noble laureate ) in his Institute where he first showed us ordinary looking rocks (inside glass cases) in the basement , and then he told us he would take us to Aladdin's cave. he switched off the lights and switched something else , all the rocks shone with brilliant colors. It was superb , and I still retain that image..Of course I did not know at that time that he was a Nobel laureate...

You might try some fluorescent dye solutions that absorb UV light and then emit in the visible range.
