I would like to compare the environmental load of dry and wet grinding under laboratory conditions (later with the scale-up method also for operating conditions). I have already performed the laboratory measurements for the grindings of the same material and in addition to the grinding parameters. I calculated specific energy requirement values for dry and wet grinding processes. Are there any researchers who have compared the results of dry and wet grinding with possibly LCA analysis? Additional question are you going to grind wet material (seeds) or add water to it? Do you measure how wet material is before grinding? Halina Maniak possibly can help you...
Dry grinding consumes higher energy and produces wider particle size distributions compared with wet grinding. It significantly decreases the rate of media consumption and liner wear.

thank you very much for your comments !! I am grateful for it!! Dry milling was done in a laboratory ball mill where the following input-output data would be counted in the LCA analysis. Input: material feed mass, energy consumption. Output: mass of grinded material, dust, wear of grinding balls. For wet milling (in a laboratory stirred ball mill) I thought of the following data. Input: mass of material feed, energy consumption, process water. Output: mass of grinded material, waste water. The grinding parameters (Bond index, Hargrove index, specific energy, grinding fineness, optimal grinding time, etc.) and material characteristics (particle size distribution with laser particle analysis, particle size distribution function with empirical estimation, median) were determined. Unfortunately I can't take grinding time into account in the LCA analysis. The mass-based consideration of the wear of the grinding balls is the point in question for 20 minutes for dry and wet grinding by LCA. I would ask for your help in this first. Best regards, Viktoria
Dear Professor Kumar, yes, I started from this principle. My previous grinding results also proved this fact that you also described. The mass-based consideration of the wear of the grinding balls (in ball mill and stirred ball mill) is the main question for 10 and 20 minutes in the LCA analysis. Dear Benjamin, I've already done the lab experiments. I am missing a single phase, in LCA analysis the only exact amount of one input flow (the grinding ball wear). I set up a scale-up model years ago for laboratory testing of wet grinding to determine the operating conditions. in this publication I write about this scale-up model:
