We have developed a set up to break down Peptidoglycan, a polymer mesh that provides structural strength to gram positive bacteria's cell wall.
To test the hypothesis, I need to get a rough estimate of the size or molecular weight of the starting Peptidoglycan sample so that I can study the effect of the treatment. We bought Peptidoglycan obtained from Bacillus Subtilis, from Sigma (https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/69554?lang=en®ion=US), but there is no information regarding the molecular weight or anything about the size of the polymer chains.
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated, thank you!
If determining the molecular weight was possible, the company might have already done that in the product specification. And its not possible with the current existing technologies.

Hello, The molecular size of the peptidoglycan or lowermolecular-weight derivatives can be determined by elution over columns of AcA 34, Sephadex G-200, or Sephadex G-100, each calibrated with dextran T-70 . The number average of glycan chain lengths of polymers can be determined by the Morgan-Elson reaction for amino sugars.
