I would like to simulate energy deposition as a result of the stopping of high energy particles in a dense plasma. For example the energy deposited when 10MeV protons are stopped in a hydrogen plasma of density 300g/cc. I think combining a Particle in Cell code with a monte carlo code would give the appropriate physics. However I have not found a code available to do this kind of simulation. Does anyone know of any appropriate simulation tools for this problem?
Thanks for your thought. MCNPX can do the monte carlo interactions in solid matter but not in a plasma as far as I am aware. I have used FLUKA before which is a similar monte carlo code but that also does not have the physics for modelling interactions in a plasma. I believe the Geant 4 developers may be working on something with regard to plasma but not sure what stage it is at.
I have put in a query with the MCNP forum as I it seems MCNP has been used for models of neutral beam heating of plasma so maybe it does have capability i require although looking at the MCNP manual there is not a single mention of the word plasma.
