Nifedipine (a calcium channel blocker) and Nicorandil (a potassium channel opener) block insulin release and hence induce hyperglycaemia in wistar rats. If an extract can reduce the hyperglycaemia induced by these agents, is it safe to say, the extract acted by either promoting the closing of K- channels or opening of Ca- channels?

Theoretically, a compound with blocking effects on calcium channels and stimulating effect on potassium channels might induce hyperglycemia. However, the problem, such kind of compound might have disturbed cardiovascular function (e.g., hypotension or negative inotropism) before it reaches islet of Langerhans.
