Sometimes radical innovations can be achieved by chance, serendipitously, a one time thing, not done continuously. In such a case we can't  say that there is a capacity there for innovation: innovativeness. But if a company can come up with new products again and again, even if it is by chance in all cases, it has a capacity to achieve innovation. In the case of gradual continuous innovation a product is taken and tweeked time and time again, purposefully to achieve innovation. This  is innovativeness even if its done with one product or process.

Innovation is an invention made by individual. Whereas Innovativeness (innovation capacity) is an intensity/ strength of invention with a view to utilization/ implementation aspect, economical/ financial aspects or any other aspects of individual's interest.

Innovation must be seen as perception, development and interpretation of who uses, or uses or experiences (output of innovation), because only this adds something to the scale value or perception of the user. However, for there to be effective innovation is fundamental to test, experiment and demonstrate or (input of innovation).

We can consider them better through the Input-Process-Output Model. To me  "innovativeness" (innovative capacity) is the process and the Innovation is output. 

Well, maybe we have all, somehow, reason, in our different approaches,

But, if it is correct that innovativeness is a process, it means that it is related to process innovation?

Or, if it's not this the approach, what might be considered in this innovativeness (process). and, the innovation is an output, BUT, what about process innovation, management innovation? Those definitions break the market/client added value approach. NO?

Lets see, they are not the same terms, because they must not be measured equally.

An innovation can be a "new or significantly improved product, process, marketing, organizational,..." achieved during the time-span that you want to measure (the discussion about radical or incremental innovation is another topic).

Innovativeness can be seen as the sum of all those in the same measured period. Then, you should decide if your measure of innovativeness may include just the sum of innovations reached, or also financial, technological, personnel skills, networking,... needed and invested to reach those innovations. In other words, innovativeness is the accumulation of efforts made by an organization looking for innovations.

This is interesting discussion. I understand the concept of innovation from the agricultural sector perspective which is adapted from the business sector. Innovation system approach to agricultural development is now a days getting famous and many scholars are using it to improve a value chain development for one commodity and others are using it to improve the whole system of crop and livestock farming. I have been working on the process side where we bring a range of stakeholders together for solving common problem. This multi-stakeholder process which we call it innovation platforms to be established and regularly organize different activities and events to learn from action research implemented on the ground. May be i want to ask here if anyone of you have this kind of experience to share and learn from each other?

You may check the attached paper for your query/ help. I have used "Hurt, H.T., Joseph, K., & Cook, C.D (1977)" scale of 20 Items to measure Individual innovativeness.

A good source is Garcia and Calantone (2002), A critical look at technological innovation typology and innovativeness terminology: a literature review. In Journal of Product Innovation Management 19 (2), 110-132.

Such question is hard to be answered with just one answer. Measurements of both innovation and innovation capacity it is always matter of discussion. Oslo Manual and others from OEDC or UNESCO are very useful regarding definition for statistical purposes. However, it is very hard to get a proper understanding of the reality starting from such statistical results. For example from such a way you can compare realities between countries but What does happen with innovation and innovative capacity at subnational scale (e.g. between regions o sectors)? Probably national scale would be the limit.

In my eyes, innovativeness refers to the innovation efficiency, i.e. The relation between innovative output and innovation (R&D) input.

Innovation is a result of innovativeness. If people in an organization are not innovative or not allowed to think and work innovatively then innovation cannot  happen. These days we are fast moving to a mindset that supports the theory 'innovations are caused and do not happen'. It is for this reason the whole discipline of innovation management revolves around innovativeness (of the people and management).

Literally, there is a circularity between the two. Innovations are the result of being innovative. Being innovative results in innovations. Societies have been innovative in their evolution, organization, and development. When the individuals are creative and there is scope for actualization and expression of that creativity innovations are the result.

However, it is in the commercial and business sectors that innovation process becomes institutionalized. The societies, rather the economies, that have better structures and facilities for R&D, historical heuristic accumulation, and market expansion tend to be more innovative.

If one goes by Karl Marx's views then innovation becomes a trait and a component of a capitalist institutionalism. Ditto for the Schumpeterian innovation process. But Schumpeter holds to the point that there are the values, attitude, and structures which make a person good innovator and the same make her rise into the capitalist business environment. So, innovations become part of a process of 'creative destruction' which makes the economy more dynamic and modern.

Now the term innovation can be more institutional by virtue of intra-firm innovations (intrapreneurs) which is a result of teamwork R&D with huge capital outlays.

As to the scales for measuring the processes one can get help from educational psychology, especially the topics on creativeness, as well as from entrepreneurial psychology, policy environment, social attributes, institutionalism, and capital expenses on R&D etc. in an economy.

Innovation is defined differently by different disciplines. 

In economics we differ innovation as a process, as an activity and as a result (output from activities). We use different indicators on firm and macrolevel. The same is for innovativeness.

For measuring the innovation on firm level we use OECD Oslo manual, applying bench marking approach.

There are different types of innovation. The basic ones are the five ones of Schumpeter. Recently the EU is talking about social innovation.

Innovation is simply the creation of a new idea or method. What I understand about "innovativeness" is to what extent this new idea or invention can be useful.

"Innovation" is the result/output of "Innovativness" or "innovative capacity" which is an individual's trait. I am measuring the innovativness using

Innovation is an idea, practice or object perceived as new by an individual.

Innovativness is the degree to which an individual or other unit of adoption is relatively earlier in adopting new ideas than other members of a system.

In short, innovation is an "outcome" of innovativeness, whereas, innovativeness is a personal trait.
