Can RG be used for generating new ideas and promoting joint research? Any ideas how to make collaboration more attractive should be of interest to most RG members.
@Sylvia, I am not so active in applying for grants /joint research/ since applications are associated with a large bureaucratic procedures, especially in international projects! Hope that may change later!

@Ljubomir, there are many researches who share your reasons. I am somewhat hopeful that at least some people who do not write proposals themselves would be interested to join new initiatives. They can contribute significantly with ideas, comments, etc. while applications are under preparation.
Afaq, I see your point. Different places have different rules for handling proposals before final submission. All of them have to be followed, no doubt. Thank you for pointing it out.
A more fruitful idea with interactions of teaching faculty RG members belonging to same specializations for running expert sharing topics of tutorialsfor the benefits of young researchers and students.
Yes, I do [or better, I should say "We do" — at X23 Ltd].
Currently, we're refining some research papers and building prototypes for "TillAge — Urban Crops", a vertical farm based on aquaponics and indoor agricultural engineering; and "GDC — Genetic Data Cube", a framework for assets mapping [pilot in Italy, Europe].
At the same time, some colleagues of mine are co-authoring a couple of grant submissions with same number European researchers, for EUCreative and EU - Horizon2020 — MG.7.1-2014. Connectivity and information sharing for intelligent mobility.
For the 1st two, I was wondering whether to experience some collaborations through RG, launching a Call [opening a Project up here].
For being active in RG one needs some time, a computer and some ideas. For writing (successful) grant applications or participating in grants sophisticated facilities and good contacts are the most important things. Winning ideas are often quite mediocre as well as many of the winners. In most cases the circle of winners is determined.
Unfortunately, as Ljubomir put it, bureaucratic conditions are crucial. Certainly, this fix the circle of institutions even their nationalities.
@Giuseppe, it is very good to hear that you and your colleagues are working on grant submissions to Horizon2020. I would say that using RG you will receive some positive responses related to both proposal writing and partner search.
