The modulus of elasticity of cement mortar can be increased by adding Nano Al2O3. experiments showed that with 5% of nanoAl2O3 (approximately 150 nm average particle size), the elastic modulus increased by 143% at 28 days.
Moreover, the addition of Nano ZrO2 powder reduces porosity and permeability, enhance compressive strength and improve the microstructure of the cement paste. Both pore filling and bridging action for adding Nano ZrO2 powder were identified as possible mechanisms for improvement. for more details and additives can read;
Dear Basil Ahamed , in addition to the information provided by Mahmood H. M. I would like to say that ZnO both as nanoparticles and like 2D sheets are additives that improve concrete elastica modulus and flexural strength, also reducing the porosity and limiting the cracks. The advantage of ZnO in these nanoscopic forms is that the required amount by Tm of concrete is really small as you can see in the following link:
The 2 greatest produced 'nanomaterials' in volume (and thus the cheapest) are fumed silica and carbon black. Cement and concrete are extremely inexpensive materials. I have seen no economic reason for adding expensive nanomaterials (e.g. CNT) to them - there would have to be really significant technical benefits.
