Dear Anand,

We developed novel methods for the extraction and analysis of algal lipids in our paper in the Journal of American OIl Chemists Society in 2013. The manuscript is posted on my page. We found that hexanes was too selective and extraction was incomplete, as indicated by residual green pigment (chlorophyll, a lipid!). Same with Folch or Bligh and Dyer using chloroform:methanol. Our method uses 2-ethoxy ethanol, which works well even if the biomass is wet and avoids additional drying steps. I hope this helps.
