There is a heated discussion in this very forum. The topic is "What is time? Is it linear or cyclic?". Several contributors have opinion that time ans space are inseparable and exixt within human mind. That is time exists in our mind:
as far as space goes..according to Eistein it is curved. My conjecture at least on a theoretical level (I am not a scientist, or a theoretical phycisist)....is that if space is curved so is time at some level. What leads me to at least ask the question as to our perceptions of time and space on society, is the old sayings that we are destined to repeat our mistakes..."what ever comes around goes around"...Ecclesiasties "nothing new under the sun", and the ying and yang. For instance at least in American society, it seems that we (Americans) every 60 years or so go through some kind of revolution at a societal level. So in this respecet yes time is lenear to our perception, but on a macro scale like societies, it seems to be cyclical. Its like a society deja vu.
As to the discusson Mr Khan refers...are time and space inseperable...well yes and no...no if we consider that the space we live in (earth) is curved, and our time is determined by it, but what if we colonize Mars....how would a fully aware human on a trek from Earth to Mars perceive time inside space ( the lenght between these two planetary bodies). Once on Mars would humans percieve time and space the same as we do on Earth, since a day on Mars is approximately the same as a day on Earth? What if we colonized Venus hypothetically? Time and space could be inseperable as in our hypothetical trek to Mars in a ship. My estimation for humans to actually make a trek that far away, we would have to get there quite quickly not months, weeks, days , but hours because as humans we base our whole livelihood inside Earth continuum, in other words a time/space curvature particular to itself, to make it to the next time continuum, Mars. Just a thought.
Also thanks for the links... I have now saved those for future study. I am also familiar with the topic being discussed heatedly but very respectfully on time and space.
