For example, the Version of Record is published online in 2012 (with a doi and with pagination beginning with page 1), but the assembled, re-paginated paper version isn't mailed until 2013. Or, in a different scenario, the volume is dated 2012, but because of circumstances, mailing of the volume or issue is postponed until 2013. Appropriate to cite as Doe, J. 2012 (mailed 2013). Title. etc.?
