Special interest in conifer needle endophytes, but references to any leaf endophytes, or even other organs where relevant, are also appreciated. I am seeking to determine if internal cellular environment (nutrients and metabolites) affects the diversity of fungal endophytes - hence information on growth rates, reproduction or competitive abilities/traits also greatly valued.

to my knowledge the endophytes definitely derive food from host but the host not allowing the fungus to multiply. But literature says that most of the host produce secondary metabolite with the influence endophytic fungi. Some metabolites of host is not produced by endos in culture. This indicates that few metabolite produced due to the interaction of both endos and host.
Kalyanaraman Do you have any good sources you could refer me to? I'm sort of looking for limiting or promoting factors of growth in the external medium in which the endophytes grow. Not necessarily special secondary metabolites, just ordinary conditions, but information on secondary metabolites is also appreciated.
