Dear all,
we are preparing a multibeam survey on the Canary Islands and ask ourselves which GPS RTK service would allow for smooth operation near the south coast of Lanzarote. Fugro marine star is not accurate enough, we need a "real" RTK service providing positions in the centimeter accuracy level. Most preferentially we would like to catch the signals via mobile internet near the coastline via NTRIP. We would highly appreciate recommendations or shared experience for canary island surveying ;)

What about getting correction through radio according to a specific protocol ?
Dear Mohamed , thanks for your reply, we do not have a radio antenna, but would like to receive the corrections through an internet service using NTRIP. I assume there is an RTK service for the Canary Islands, hopefully even free of charge for pure scientific purposes?
MarineStar's 8-10cm accuracy is considered very good for hydrographic surveying. You can't expect an cadastral survey accuracy in the dynamic marine environment. Single Base/Rover RTK system would require a pair of radio links or wireless network correction. Again, it is depends on the GPS's accuracy +ppm. The distance apart will eventually contribute propergation errors.

Dear Jens Schneider von Deimling, okay I get your point now. Then you have to source for RTK correction from any nearest Base receiver in that case. Grab in their RTCM correct signal via NTRIP if there is a readily mobile network.
Do you really need an RTK in real time on board for this.?
Why not place your own GNSS receiver on known local ground point and use that as a base to record RINEX files and post process in PPK, assuming you will be within say 30km radius

many thanks for your answers. Yes, base station setup could be a solution and we target that as plan B. We run a high-definition INS system (Applanix Wavemaster) motion-sensor, online RTK-GPS is much more convenient for that setup than postprocessing GPS. We still look for plan A solution with online corrections provided by a terrestrial service provider as our multibeam survey area is very close to the coastline.

Hi Jen, yes Applanix's GNSS-aided inertial system can give you a more precise and accurate position. Good luck.
Dear all, the issue has been solved. We use online RTK via Ntrip from a local GPS reference stations nearby. The corresponding service is hosted by http://www.grafcan.es/ and a yearly subscription cost 200€ for our academic surveying. The GPS accuracies we obtained ranged between 3 and 5 centimeters and highly improved our MBES measurents

Dear all, please don't forget about the PPM error rate of the GNSS receivers.
The error in measurement may increase by 1 millimeter per 1,000 meters traveled. Good luck!
