I'm looking at perhaps using a pre-existing framework to guide teacher educators through an assessment of their own courses for the integration of sustainability into their teaching practices. I may do before and after interviews or surveys to measure their understanding of sustainability/EfS and whether they incorporate these concepts into their teaching/course curricula. I'm wondering if anyone's seen studies similar to this idea?

Hi Alexandra, in the UK context there was a PhD study by Ciaran Francis O’Sullivan called "Sustainability in Secondary Education in England: An Ethnographic Study" which uses a specific framework for sustainability. It's available from the British Library as a free download (http://ethos.bl.uk).

If you're looking for historical parallels, check out the nature study movement - late 19th through early 20th century. Kevin Armitage has a book titled "Nature Study" from 2011/2012 that you'll find interesting; it deals with nature study as a catalyst and momentum builder for 20th century environmentalism.

Many studies have been done in Australia in this area and these are published in AJEE, JEE, EER and IJSHE. Overseas studies were conducted in Israel, Spain, Africa, etc and published in a variety of journals, e.g., Journal of Cleaner Production, etc. There's plenty to look at.
