Dear Daniel, thanks for your idea. I'm currently researching  on removal of contaminants from synthetic wastewater, and i agree with you that no single method can remove 100% of contaminants from wastewater, and prevention of microplastics from entering oceans is more important. However, it'll take time for organizations and countries to set up laws to limit or prevent the use of microplastics in commercial products, and educate people on the importance of plastic recycling. There is a need to develop technologies for removal of microplasticsin wastewater from industries related to plastics production, or from drinking water. So it will be beneficial to point out a possible starting point on decontamination of microplastics, and we can see how far can we go from there.

to put it nice and simple.... there is no way to clean up the oceans once they are nicely contaminated - they are just way too big. But there is a fair chance to prevent pollution (microplastics) reaching them e.g. by treating wastewater

Removal of  microplastics from sea water is not possible. But mixing of microplastics in domestic/industrial wastewater can be prevented or minimized.

In modern civilization, the use of plastics can not be stopped. But, the plastic waste management can reduce the environmental pollution mainly the contamination of surface water resources  due to the mixing of micrioplastics.

Two categories of  plastics are generally found in plastic wastes  -thermoplastics (major constituent & recyclable plastics) and thermoset  plastics.

The proper management  can reduce the plastic waste as well as creates some wealth. The following methods can be adopted:
