I'm working on a piece of social media based research which will function as activism. Trying to locate anything that explores the ethical implications of activism from the position of responsibility of a researcher.
I had a quick look; is there anything of help here?:
Jones, B. (2019). Political Activism and Research Ethics. Journal of Applied Philosophy.
Article Political Activism and Research Ethics
Gillan, K., & Pickerill, J. (2012). The difficult and hopeful ethics of research on, and with, social movements. Social Movement Studies, 11(2), 133-143.
Jeyapal D (2016) From Activists to Terrorists: The Politics and Ethics of Research Representations of Transnational Resistance. Intersectionalities, Vol. 5, No. 1, pp 46-67.
If something is very difficult, it is to treat the problem of researcher ethics as social media activism. I do not know of any work on this matter, but I cannot remain silent on this question and I want to give you my opinion. Here your individual values as a scientist work, your responsibility and relevance to a scientific community where you share values that identify you. Scientists have a responsibility to humanity, from our sciences we must work to improve the world, to convert our knowledge into a world heritage site. I am concerned that when you do activism work you must assume the budgets of a particular group, here is the big problem of how to develop an option that allows a win-win formula for all the groups that will have access to the activism that you will perform.
Like emotional intelligence that does the balancing act for artificial intelligence, social intelligence must balance social activism. Social welfare activities in itself don't guarantee fulfilment of ethical responsibility.
