This is a very wide area of research. I suggest, choose in which level you want to work: Generation and transmission, or distribution grid? In distribution, you may think about management of uncertainties such as Electric Vehicles. Or think about tariff policy in battery-dominated residential grids.

I suggest to focus hybrid electric vihcle(HEV),or Hybrid power train,and use the solar or wind energy system as the power source of the HEV or the train.And then you can think about the control algoritm to manage the power between the main source and the renewable energy source.

Can I use some open data source? If yes which you can recommend. And if I want to simulate the processor in part of the methodology what kind of soft I can use.
