Hello everyone.. I hope someone here might be able to help. I'm developing a performance management system for the manufacturing organization that I work for, and part of the process requires the raters to take part in a Behavioral Observation Training. I'm having a difficult time finding the content typically included in the curriculum of BOT, and all of my searching ends in education-based application. In order for the BARS to be effective and perceived fair, it's crucial that the raters learn to overcome common observational errors associated with this process. While I'm interested in designing my own training based on available information, I'd be willing to entertain alternative ideas. Any direction or support would be welcomed; thanks in advance!
I think this is a tricky area especially if there are not clearly identified behaviors that you have in mind or clearly agreed upon markers for productivity that is achieved (or not achieved) when employees engage in certain behaviors. The field of education is replete with behavioral observation protocols. Perhaps you're already familiar with a few of these.

Each of these are research driven and are used in schools (largely by researchers) as ways to gauge the effectiveness of the teaching behaviors by observing the effect of the behaviors on the students and then making correlations. Simply put. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it might give you something to think through when designing your own or looking for others in the manufacturing world.
Thanks, Nicholas J. Shudak ... I'm familiar with the school-based observational training, and I've considered how to adapt them to the workplace. I will have completed a behaviorally anchored rating system (BARS) prior to the training, so the behaviors will be clearly identified and content valid. The issue I have with the school-based versus the workplace-based is the pedagogy vs. andragogy dilemma. Either way, I'll take a look at some of your links and see if there's some additional and helpful info in there... I appreciate your insights
