I am designing the antenna array for RF energy harvesting it means my antennas are the receivers. When I simultaneously simulated four antenna elements individually (fig .1)
) they have the same return loss frequency. But when i connect them in series or parallel then the operating freq is the effect (fig.2).
Now the question is,
1. Should i ignore the return loss of series or parallel connection because my individual element is operating at designed frequency?
2. Should i get same return loss for series or parallel connection just like single element? ( when it is simulated like in fig.2).
The answer is simple...when you are simulating your antenna using individual feed, it is expected to have accurate result..you also got the same...on the other hand, connecting antennas in series, you have to adjust the connecting wire properly. Otherwise, the loading effect can not eliminated....so design the series connection properly...
To explain more clearly the above - I presume your feed is 50 ohms. Two antennas, each matched to 50 ohms, in parallel (as shown above) will be 25 ohms, so will be a bad match (there will be a reflection from the join). You need to put in a transformer from 25 ohms to 50 ohms (a quarter-wave 35 ohm section) directly below the joint. Have you taken the impedances into account? - the line widths (and joins) look a bit random to me. The curved track should be 50 ohms unless you have chosen the length carefully to make it a transformer, but I don't think you have.
Considering your Microstrip patch antenna with inset fed has 50 Ohm, and for feeding network as well with 50 ohm, 1.) You should not ignore, you need to consider and optimise with your desire freq band. 2.) Level may not be same but operating freq range should be same.
