Dear colleagues,
Myself and a few colleagues published a few papers describing a platform to allow real-time applications, such as face recognition, to be executed from mobile devices, by using the cloud as the computational back-end. We called this platform MOCHA (Mobile Cloud-based Hybrid Architecture).
I have since received many emails from all over the world about the specifics of the architectures and the source code. Based on this positive feedback, we are now working on a journal version of the paper along with a completely royalty-free open source MOCHA code. We will also form a discussion group, so, we can continuously improve the code.
I wanted to post this on RG to get initial ideas in helping us develop the journal paper and the open source code. Any of your comments will be appreciated.

Hi folks, do you know if it is possible to have some kind of a FORUM through RG ? For example, if I wanted to have an open source program that I wanted to publish and have a discussion forum, typically, I can have my own website, but, possibly, it is better to go through RG, so, they manage the storage of the entire content, and anyone who is interested in it can sign up ASAP ?

Apart from face recognition, what other applications are you looking at presently? What problems did you encounter during the development process?
Hi all, our goal is to focus on applications that have a HIGH PERFORMANCE requirement. These are the applications that will potentially benefit from the middle-layer device, called the CLOUDLET. In addition, we are focusing on applications that work from a large database (i.e., involvement of Big Data, without abusing the term).
The BIG DATA (or, simply a globally updated, very large and dynamic database) puts a condition on the applications that, they have to eventually access the cloud, or, cache a portion of the database TEMPORARILY. Due to the DYNAMIC requirement (i.e., highly updated database, such as a list of items that just got added 10 ms ago), the TIME-TO-LIVE for the local cache is low (like, hours). So, the cache must be updated fairly often.
Additionally, the LATENCY of the applications is very important, which has a direct effect on the RESPONSE TIME. So, the CLOUDLET can help intensely there. This was the starting point of our research ...
To summarize: we have two primary requirements: 1) High computational intensity and 2) Large and highly-updated Internet-based database requirement.
