I think the quantity of alcohol has a significant role to play in this process. If the alcohol is taken not to intoxicate oneself; then, I will support the idea.
From my personal experience, I sometimes use a little bit of alcohol to re-energize my brain for proper functioning. That is, after a hard day's study of varied academic materials, such as absorbing several chapters, doing other related school's works etc. my brain becomes dull - so to speak, for sometimes that it no longer holds for further understanding of the specific subject matter. In that manner, I use alcohol (in low quantity, not for intoxication) and go to sleep for a while.
Hence, this substance serves as a stance for re-energizing or re-booting the brain functions through the mechanics that it (the brain) relies on to rejuvenate in order to hold or accept in-coming materials during writing or additional study for a specific period of time.
Moreover, it is known to all that the use of alcohol (low or high quantity) impairs the functions of the brain or the ability to comprehend efficiently. If taken in a low quantity, the level of impairment becomes structural in creating space for additional academic loads.
