It is very noticeable that some diseases have been spread and become very common in our life specially cancers. There are a lot of explanations for this phenomena where all of these explanation accused some of our life practices including agricultural ones. However, before the current advances in technological diagnosis of diseases, nobody can assure how spread was these diseases in the world. Some scientific researches proved that more than 90% of cancer cases are basically related to genetic factors, although these diseases need to be triggered by some environmental factor(s).
We hear most of the time that some agricultural practices are the cause of cancer diseases. Some of these practices are overdoses of fertilizer application and/or application of chemical pesticides and fungicides. Nitrogen fertilizers specially nitrates are the main accused one for causing cancer. But don't we have nitrogen compounds in the air because of burning fossil fuel? and probably the amount is much bigger than what is consumed in our food?. Do we know for sure that these practices are the main reason for such diseases or it is just the "smoking gun" concept that being used?. Are we sure that it is not the GMO or a combined practices that cause these diseases? Do we know how long a person need to eat a particular food(s) before the cancer disease is triggered?
I am not saying that applied agrochemicals are totally innocent as a possible cause for some diseases but it is getting too much in that direction. There were more dangerous and lethal chemicals and substances that were used in the past and people died because of it without identifying these causes until recently.
I think advances in technology enabled us to diagnose diseases easier and more clear than in the past and this contributed substantially in defining more specifically which disease is caused in each case.
What do you think???
