This change in color might indicate a change in the phase of the material. Or maybe there was an interaction happening between the liner, which is a molybdenum liner with the SiO2 pellets under the high temperatures conditions.

for sure it is an unwanted doping process with other atomic species which lead to a change of the optical properties, hence a different color appearance.

It may be due to the formation of point defects, which will change the electrical and optical properties. Colored materials are conductive.
