Some Aerosol Optical Depth data in the infrared region (at 10µm) are available from IASI on board Metop-A.

If interested, there is a recent publication you could start with, to check if this kind of dataset could be of help for your purposes.

Hi Melina,

AERONET derives the Angstrom coefficient from the measurements at 1.02 microns & shorter wavelengths. You could use an assortment of Aerosol models to derive an Angstrom coefficient from 1 micron & several shorter wavelengths and see how well that can be used to extrapolate to 2.2 microns or other longer wavelengths. The Shettle & Fenn 1979 models (available at http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a085951.pdf ) provide one such assortment. The AERONET models should provide another.
