What are your suggestions for making an appropriate connection to an academician for a research collaboration? if you think email would be the best, how much detail about myself and the work should be included that doesn't make the reader bored?
Shaghayegh . This is a great question. I think the essential thing in collaboration is trust, the willingness of each member to do their best, honesty, transparency and commitment. The same applies if you are willing to find a mentor or coach. I would say you need to ensure that you find first the right person or group, then gradually start discussing the details of your project. I usually ask for a CV of people willing to collaborate with me. Then we Skype or talk on the phone about the nature of collaboration and more details. If things going well, we start building a plan with time-frame, and distribute responsibilities and discuss authorship. If you are interested, email me your CV, your research interest, and any publications you contributed to.
I have been facing these questions you presented many times during the past few year. Elsevier B.V. provides a free of charge obline training hub "Elsevier Researcher Academy: https://researcheracademy.elsevier.com/
I recommend for YOU to create an account and sign up. This portal is useful in many ways: there is a section "Research Collaboration with many modules:
Via the LinkedIn- network you can also join scientific communities where YOU can contact people you see have the right profile for your project idea. I recommend YOU to consider the following group: "INNOVATION and Entrepreneurship Network, Science & Technology Policy and Management" and "ISPIM > Connecting Innovation Professionals"
I comletely agree with Prof. Samy Azer, cannot add anything.

It is an interesting question since we received many requests for collaboration these days! I agree with Samy and Bulcsu. Also, I quote and highlight from Samy answer "I think the essential thing in collaboration is trust, the willingness of each member to do their best, honesty, transparency and commitment.".
