hello , I have a homework and I have to design a lens for an advanced scientific microscope. How i can decide to choose materail? Which properties should material have? Can you give some information to me? Thank you :)
I suggest you look at the learning / educational zones that all the major microscope manufacturers put on their websites, Nikon, Olympus, Zeiss, Leica. They tell you many of the considerations of lense selectoin and design. This is the best place to look.
A very practical book describes how to design objectives, including microscope objectives: “Modern Lens Design (McGraw-Hill Professional Engineering) 2nd Edition” by Warren J. Smith.
The task sounds like designing an microscope objective lens? A lot of constraints should be given to make it a meaningful task! Focal length, field size, wavelength range, parfocal distance, working distance, NA, definition of tube lens and so on. Objective lenses usually consist of many lenses of different material to compensate chromatic aberration.
The only one-material single lens objectives I can imagine in this respect are meta-material lenses for transformation-optics or a solid-immersion-lens.
