Not so complicated. Hizimura & Matsuyama (1999) suggested a model to characterize and describe eruptions (crashes) in population dynamics. I'm testing some hypothesis and I'd like to test the second derivative (equation 7) and compare with some time series. Unfortunately they didn't calculate this. Anyone here likes a mathematical trouble? If you want to help me I could describe such details. Thanks a lot.
Hi, what do you want do do exactly with equation 7 ? Do you want do compute the second derivative with respect to some variable ? Sorry but I do not understand precisely your question.
Sorry, I expressed in a wrong way. In fact I want the derivative in equation 7 in function of time. Knowing this is enough dN/dt=0 to find maximum, but I want to know how the processes reaches this maximum (acceleration/tangent) depending on changes in parameters. This equation increases the understanding of ecological phenomena since all paramentes have ecological meaning. For my personal doubts the derivative in function of time is sufficient. But to researches in ecology it was a good to find all derivatives (dN/dr / dN/dK / dN/da / dN/b).
