I have a xrd pattern, in that i suspect that one of the peak may be due to SL, i want to understand how to confirm it or reject it

Can a individual without affiliation to a university or research institute publish research papers? What would be the journals stand in such case?

I wonder how an individual would publish his ideas or his theory on scientific or as matter of fact in any field, if he is not affiliated to any university or firm or any institute?
