Why am I not able to get any synaptic responses with my field recordings?

I am doing sagittal mouse brain sections of thickness 300um from postnatal days P20-P24 and P47-P50.  Sections are sliced in choline-ACSF, incubated at 34C for 15mins before transferring to RT....
