What's the propper way to analise with PCR an artificial feeding medium (sucrose at 15%) for a planthopper for the presence of phytoplasma DNA?

After the insect feeds, do you have to threat the medium in any way (use an extraction protocol)? can you analyse it directly (using the medium as template)? I'll be using a real-time PCR protocol...
