What is the role of chloroform:methanol (2:1) solution in the bile acid extraction from human fecal sample?

I like to use chloroform:methanol (2:1) solution for fecal bile acid extraction. I'm wondering is it will be helpful for protein precipitation? Appreciate your suggestion.
