How do you prepare doxorubicin hydrochloride for intraperitoneal injection in nude mice?

I usually dissolve Dox HCl in sterile NaCl 0.9%. The dose of 5 mg/kg IP once weekly seems too toxic in my experiments, even though this dose was used and tolerated in multiple published articles....
