Are there ways to look at the biological mechanisms of CHD and cognitive decline in a MSc thesis?

I want to look at coronary heart disease and mild cognitive impairment for my Masters thesis. I have been told that it is not possible to look at biological pathways/mechanisms - but wasn't given...
