Why and When should Cytosine(C) or Tymidine(T) in Probe sequence modify to pdC and pdU in probe synthesis respectively ?

Hello I wanted to know why and when should Cytosine(C) or Tymidine (T) in Probe sequence change to pdC and pdU in probe synthesis ? and does this modification could occur in primers too? Thank you
