Do you know if after 1.5 years at 4°C, diatoms from river water samples are still OK to do some microscope preparations?

I have water samples from a river that were taken c.a. 1.5 years ago and were placed in the fridge, and now I am wondering if it pays the effort to proceed with a protocol to check the structure...
