Mat time can be a powerful tool in building essential relations for a good learning enviroment. I challenge groups in telling me what they need to feel comfortable in joined group activities. This is a way of letting the group take resposibility for making some ground rules about how they think they should treat each other. Participation is a key. One possiblity is to challenge each participant in turn and ask: »What makes you feel good in class?» or «How should we treat each other during mat time?» Social understanding is also taking responsibility for the social situation. This can be facilitated through asking questions and making room for reflections between the participants.
