Shapiro, Farrell and Economides wrote about this in the 1990s and we seem to have lost our way research wise after that. Most digital networks are compatible. I am interested in the dynamics of compatible networks: communications networks, social networks, c2c/b2b networks.

Try and access a lot of materials on http://www.IACR.org that is international association of cryptologic research. Theya have a lot of articles on crypto. Other digital libraries too as well such as ACM,IEEE, IET, SPRIGER, BCS, ELSEVIER taylors , WILEY etc or use SCIMAGO journal ranking system to select a good journal to give you a higher chance of accessing a good paper on crypto.
