It could, but "openness" almost goes hand in hand with blockchain. The one area where blockchain may be really useful is identity verification, which could help reduce the risk of the incorrect people getting access to information. So when it comes to proof of identity, perhaps, but I don't know if I'd say yes to anything more than that. Actually, one thing I'd like to work on is biometric proof of identity using blockchain.

It depends on the type of Blockchain, the application domain where the information is being shared, and the access need for that particular use-case! One thing Blockchain can guarantee is definitely trust.

Blockchains are distributed networks and all data in the blockchain is secured through cryptography or some complex Integrity Chains. Bigger blockchain networks with more users have a very lower risk of getting attacked by hackers because of the complexity required to penetrate such a big complex distributed network. Its not easy to break such Integrity chains. So it will definitely improve the security of Information transfers.

No - Blockchain as a solution is awaiting a fitting problem to solve. But I don't think that it is "improve the security of information transfer on the Internet"

Blockchain is a fairytale which promised us Alice in wonderland. But whether or not the red queen will find alice in wonderland has not been very clearly researched on. In another word it does promise perceived security and have gain trust of user through strong cryptographic solutions. However, it's still not sure what kind of privacy breach or violation it can possess as the blockchain thrives on distributed approach which involves data being transmitted through unknown territory.

Till now it is not clear whether Blockchain will improve security or whether there are kinds of privacy breaches( double spending, DDoS, and record hacking

On the other hand we can count a some reasons why Blockchain will improve data security:

Due to data immutability, decentralised nature, consensus algorithms, and the like, it is clear that blockchain can offer privacy to information shared across the internet.

Blockchain has great potential, but regulators won't allow it to be used in financial services (The Federal Reserve has a good paper on the subject) because of lack of security and authentication at the endpoints. Blockchain does a decent job of protecting information, but has little protection for the network it is deployed on.

Yes, it can improve the security but not the privacy.

You can use it for audit trail's in log files

The information transfer security is handled by the block chain, however, user privacy is still an under-investigative concern.

There are two issues that are very different: information security and network security. DLT does a good job with the former and fails the latter.
