Teleworking works best in terms of productivity and innovation if carried out in co-working, as the critical peer review allows to continuously improve the "deliverables"
I would say that the new normal home comes with a SOHO set up, ready to plug and play. it could be one of the bedrooms converted into SOHO or could be designed exclusively. It would look more like a business centre of a hotel with some common services and independent meeting rooms to avoid interruption for working couple. Add the kids attending classes from home and that makes it a major part of real estate. Today the existing bedrooms are getting converted which is not really convenient. I personally would prefer not to travel at all and so would many people. The interesting question here is, what would happen to the existing office spaces? Would they be converted into dwelling units cum offices ? Could be a great option.
I think some people prefer to separate the home space from the work space. because they mentally can not focus on job concerns in home. so the co-working space especially near home could be more attractive for them
Since so many people around the world have experienced remote working during the pandemic,I would expect it to be a choice for greater numbers going forward. It has both advantages and drawbacks for both employer and employee, of course. I think the extent of growth will depend to some extent on roll out of very fast communications infrastructures. However, there may also be a social class divide. It is more difficult to accomplish, for instance, in a small, crowded apartment.
During the Covid pandemic, many people, including university students, have had to work online from home. This does have some good points, it reduces pollution of various sorts and the day can be structured in a more personal way, to name a couple of points, but it also comes with other issues. Humans are generally social and working from home can be very isolating and a very solitary process, which can lead to social and emotional issues. Platform such as zoom and teams can be exhausting after a couple of hours and this too can have a negative effect on health. I hope that going forward, there is the option of both home and shared spaces to work from. It is important to be with peers or colleagues to share ideas and experiences and simply bounce them off each other. It is also important to simply feel human contact and be, in some way appreciated and valued.
The home office opens up horizons never imagined. Due to the high cost of living in megacities, people are going to small towns to enjoy a better quality of life. So maybe this 15 minute distance limit is only important at the beginning.
