I have prepared polymer - ceramic composite and modified its surface with low energy nitrogen ions. In SEM i have observed that the ion implanted samples had microstructures on its surface. I didn't go for thermal annealing process after ion implantation. From literature i understand that nucleation is possible with irradiation with energetic ions and it will ripe/grow when we do thermal annealing which leads to formation of surface nano/micro structures. Is there any possibility of ostwald ripening or coalescence process without any thermal treatment after implantation
