I know very well XRD analysis and I'm very familiar with the clay minerals identification procédures. I have been performing XRD analyzes for more than 10 years. I use Bruker Diffrac.EVA and Diffrac.TOPAS softwares.

My question was only about the quantification of clay minerals phases wich is not easy with most of Rietveld refinement software.

I read that some XRD analysis softwares like NEWMOD or SIROQUANT were more suitable for clay minerals analysis; that's why I asked this question.

no, it's just because the crystallographic structure of most clay phases are not well known (it often misses the atomic coordinates).
