Why we use Binary Additive Indicator (Iε+) for determining the domination of 2 non-dominated solution in EMaOPs??

I can't realize the concept of Iε+ as well as the Concept of crowding distance in NSGA2 or associated reference points in NSGA3 which are used for niche preservation in non-dominated sorting methods!!
