When a liver organ is extracted from an experimental animal, they are quickly washed in ice cold 1.15% KCl solution.Why is it always KCl? Can't normal saline be used also?

Hi Efosa,
KCl is often used in subcellular fractionation of tissue homogenates, associated with PBS and various inhibitors of proteases. It helps to solubilize proteins as prevents possible agregations.
